About
Mark Orr found his love for photography while doing genealogy research in Henry County. Taking photos of old school houses, homesteads, cemeteries, churches etc….turned from purely documentation to a love and passion for taking photos. Mark has traced some branches of his family as far back as the 1500′s and several branches of his family were early Henry County and central Indiana pioneers including the Maddy, Runyan,Tutterow and Morris branches. Over 100 family ancestors of Orr’s are buried at nearby Batson Cemetery in Liberty Township, Henry County, the oldest recorded being Noah Runyan who was born in 1777 and died here in Henry County (near Millville) in 1839.
Orr’s photographs have been exhibited at the Henry County Historical Society, Art Center and other places in Henry County. His work has appeared in the Courier Times, Indiana Preservationist and other publications. Orr has done an album cover for the German composer and musician Achim Weiderschem on his “An Ocean of Dreams” album. Orr’s photos were the inspiration for poems written by Irish Poet Richard Mc Sweeney in his latest book of poetry entitled “Unto Lineage Royal” and most recently Mark sold several photographs to Showtime TV for use on the upcoming season of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning show “United States of Tara” produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Diablo Cody.
